Want to show computer and home icon on ubuntu desktop like Microsoft windows? Yes it's possible and very simple you can also control your mounted devices to show on the desktop or not. This trick only work in ubuntu classic desktop environment so you need to switch
Classic ubuntu interface by going dash and type “login screen” in the search field and click login screen click unlock enter password choose ubuntu classic from drop down menu click close
Follow these step and you can do it easily
Press alt +f2 then type gconf-editor and enter
Double click on apps and find nautilus
Than select desktop. In the left panel click on box for selecting ( which icon you want to show on the desktop) and close configure editor
your icon now is visible on desktop that you selected
